Scorecard

With five changes from the previous week, but still five first team regulars missing, St Lukes faced Clapham Old Xaverians with another weakened side.  Clapham won the toss and decided to bowl and immediately St Lukes were in trouble.  Clapham's opening bowlers were bowling well with Williams sending down teasing outswingers.  It took only 3 overs for him to get Ed (with an inswinger to the left-hander).  Jo and Andy soon followed, then Sri was run out due to a direct hit, and after 7.1 overs St Lukes were 5 runs (all extras) for 4 wickets.  Michael was offering resistance but his first reckless shot was skied and he was caught for 10 - 21 for 5.  Jon started well enough but on 8 he got a excellent delivery from Williams and was bowled - 32 for 6 after only 14 overs.  Williams finished with 5 for 32.

With plenty of overs remaining and embarrassment in the offing, Charlie and Tim C got their heads down and put together a patient 7th wicket partnership of 60.  Tim eventually fell lbw for 23 and Charlie was caught trying to push the score along having got 51 in a back-to-the-wall innings.  Dougs made a quick 17 and St Lukes finally made 131-9 at the close of the innings.

Most of the Clapham innings was played in steady drizzle which made bowling with a wet ball difficult.  Jason and Robin opened but neither was impressive.  Jason's persistence was rewarded with an lbw.  Michael and Dougs bowled reasonably well and Michael took the seciond wicket courtesy of an excellent catch by Ed.  As the situation became desparate Ed brought himself on but his aggressive style made no difference with no help from the pitch or the weather.  Clapham easily achieved their target with 8 wickets and 20 overs to spare.

Man of the Match - a back-to-form Charlie Hillman.
