St Lukes A ‘V’ Wimbledon Village Sat 24th May

Report by James Somers

After a good victory last week against Purley we looked forward to giving a very good Wimbledon Village side a run for their money.

The game started very slow for Wimbledon as after 16 overs we had them at 38 for 1.

Bob and Evan again were awesome with the ball in their hands. Bob finished his 10 overs with figures of (10-28-2) and Evan (10-25-1). Since the two opening bowlers had been so tight, Wimbledon must have thought they would get some joy out of the first and second change, they were wrong.

Hemant and Ahmed came on and just added to the excellent spells from the two openers.

Ahmed was soon amongst the wickets taking 2 for 33 off 10 overs and Hemant put in a terrific spell with (10-29-0). Only one batsman made his mark for Wimbledon Village and finished on a very respectable 74 after finally being run out by Shoks.

They went on to get 156 for 7 after the full 45 overs.

Bowling

  O M R W Nb Wd
Bob Gaddes 10 2 28 2
Evan Huyerman 10 0 25 1
Ahmed Hassan 10 1 33 2
Hemant Joneja 10 1 29 0
Shoukat Rahman 3 0 15 1
Gopi Desai 2 0 6 1

So after seeing 486 runs scored on this pitch 2 weeks ago we were confidant that the total was achievable. We got off to a rocky start loosing Richard Somers early on in the second over, to a ball that didn’t bounce. This meant that the skip had to come in a little sooner than anticipated. Never the less with Richard B and James at the crease the score moved on at a steady rate when eventually Richard was bowled taking on a straight one, the score was 60 for 2 off 21, RB getting 18. It didn’t take long for James to follow, the next over in fact, getting caught and bowled off a thick top edge, scoring 43.

We then, after looking in a strong position managed to throw three wickets away cheaply only adding 17 runs as Mitsi, Shoks and Ahmed fell by the way side scoring just 2 between the 3 of them.

It was then left to Wasif and Goppy to see us home with plenty of overs to spare they needed to be sensible and play a very important partnership.

We were not disappointed, they saw us over the finish line with Wasif getting a magnificent 53 and Goppy adding 32 both finished not out.
