St Lukes A ‘V’ Norwood                               Sat 7th June

After a week off for the 2nd team, it was time to get back down to business in the league.

As usual James lost the toss and was put into bat on a track that looked as though it had been set about by a pneumatic drill, it had that many cracks in it.

So the ‘two Richies’ took to the field with the team feeling optimistic, as we had made a good start to the league and scored quite a few runs as of late.

It wasn’t long before the skipper had to take to the crease as Richard Somers fell for a duck playing a straight one that should have been blocked. The Norwood openers were bowling a very good line and length and managing to get a good amount of swing as well, making life difficult for the batsmen. Richard Bent was next to fall for the swing bowling, following one outside off stump, glancing it to the wicket keeper for an easy catch.

Next in was a new player called Azhar who looked good with the bat until he was done with ‘the one that doesn’t bounce’, quickly becoming a regular occurrence at this ground.

Next it was Ahmed’s turn to face the wrath of the Norwood bowling and it didn’t take long to get him out as he played all round a good ball. Mitsi and Wasif were the next two to follow hardly troubling the scorebook as we were on – for 7 at – overs gone.

James was next to go only adding 9 and so Shoks and Hemant were put to the fire with us only having 2 wickets in the bag. Shoks tried to hang around as Hemant set about single handedly smacking the Norwood first and second change bowlers all around the pitch, even scoring 20 off of one guy’s over, safe to say that was his first and last of the day. Shoks then fell and Gopi came in and did well to back Hemant up with some tidy defensive play. When Gopi was out with the score on 73, Bob came in, and as ever held up his end-allowing Hem to play his shots eventually finishing on a brilliant 58.

St Lukes finished on 105 all out, of 38.2 overs.

After another ordinary lunch, the Skip was nervous that we hadn’t got enough runs to make a game of it but was reassured by his bowlers, telling him that they liked the look of the track with all the extra cracks and rough spots.

Bob and Gopi opened the bowling as Evan was being entertained by the First XI.

It wasn’t long before we had a massive shout for a nick behind, but both batsman and umpire thought otherwise and we had to continue feeling a little irate.

But we needn’t have worried as only a few balls later Bob had him caught by Wasif at short mid wicket, (Justice?). The wickets fell as rapidly as ours and we had them at 21 for 6 in no time at all. Eventually we bowled a seemingly week Norwood batting side out for just 34.

Gopi was the pick of the bowlers with Bob not far behind a nd Hemant took the last wicket in the 22nd over.

Another step towards, might I say it, back-to-back promotions??

Man of the match: Hemant (gave us a total to bowl at (thank you))
