John Fisher A v St Lukes A - Div 3 on 19 July at John Fisher CC, Warlingham
Report by Robin Ford
A weakened St Lukes side containing new players Ripal Patel (another "cousin" of Mitsi) and Inderjeet Singh (from a Gumtree ad) and only 10 men.
John Fisher won the toss and chose to field and soon had St Lukes in trouble at 6-2. A third wicket partnership of 83 between James Somers (51) and Ripal (also 51) swung the game towards St Lukes, both batsmen looking comfortable against some good bowling. However, when the breakthrough came the middle order fell away, St Lukes slumping from 111-3 to 117-7 in 5 overs. Only Barry Myers put up any late resistance scoring 18 and helping St Lukes to a defendable, albeit a lowish total of 146 all out.

In reply the John Fisher innings ebbed and flowed. Bob Gaddes had opener Tull caught by Mitsi Patel (then wicketkeeper) with no runs on the board. A partnership of 50 between Williams (41) and Edwardes (10) swung the game John Fishers way. Two wickets for 2 runs saw John Fisher at 52-3 and St Lukes in with a chance again. Anderson was now establishing himself at one end but a further two wickets fell to Robin Ford and John Fisher were on 98-5. However, runs were easy to come by and Green (26 not out) joined Anderson (57 not out) to steer John Fisher to a comfortable 5 wicket victory. Not the luckiest of days in the field. Apart from having only 10 men, Roy Yatali pulled a muscle in his leg which restricted his movement, Inderjeet cut his hand attempting to take a catch, the ball travelling at quite a speed, and Wasif Zamir tore a shoulder muscle diving in the outfield.
