St Lukes vs Battersea Ironsides 2nd August 2008 Home played at Abbey Rec, Morden Road
Report by Jason Custance
It was the end of one era and the beginning of a new one. Ed was no longer skipper, long live the new skipper Michael.
The match wasn't looking that promising for St Lukes even before the match started, as we only had 7 players there for the start of the match, but start with 7 we did with Battersea's skippers approval.
Battersea Ironside - Innings
Custance opened the bowling and was able to get the ball to swing nicely in the humid overcast conditions. Then Allan turned up to give us 8 and things were looking up as then Disco Dave arrived. Disco was questioned as to were the nickname came from but all he said was that it was from 20 years ago. Quinn started from the other end and what was clear from the first over was how quick the outfield was. In Custance's 2nd over he bowled a peach of a ball that started outside leg and then swung to hit the top of off stump, with the skipper (george 4) playing and missing, george's parents were there as well, so sorry about that. Halprin then came to the crease and started playing shots from the go and runs started to flow. Custance beat the batsmen on numerous occasions but couldn't get Lukes a 2nd wicket and runs were coming 6 a over. Doogs and Tim B came on to bowl and it wasn't long before Doogs stuck to remove Halprin but not before he had scored 74. Blatt was keeping the runs down from the over end but Lukes were still going for around 5 an over. It wasn't until Disco Dave came on that the wickets started to full with Disco picking up 4 and Quinn getting 2 from the other end. In the end Battersea reach a very good total of 272.

St Lukes - Innings
Karl started the innings by hitting a straight drive down the ground for 4. Raj survived an early run out chance as the umpire couldn't see if the BI player had broken the stumps cleanly, but it was short lived as Raj fell clean bowled with only 3 to his name (12 total). In came Allan and the score started to tick over but the partnership was ended on 34. Next up was Charlie, who like Andrew Strauss hadn't only been getting 20's to his name. George made a bowling change with Halprin coming on, Karl tried to hit him out of the park first ball up but missed, then missed a few more before calming words were shouting to Karl from the touchline, which resulted in him trying to hit him out of the park again, but clean bowled he was, Ironsides knew they had got a dangerous player out, karl had scored 40. Then came Krishna, having done wonders with 7 fielding men, could he do the same with the bat. To add to the pressure his dad had come all the way from Oz to see his 1st game in charge (well lucky timing really) The score moved along nicely (behind run rate) and in trying to push the rr up (or was it trying to impress his dad) skipper kirishna played all round one and was bowled for 18, a partnership of 41 was ended. In came Sethi and put on a quick 19 before being caught on the long on boundry. (total 137-5) Hillman was in to the forties at the other end. In came Disco, would this be a telling partnership? Charlie bought up his 50 within a couple of overs but then played a loose shot to a ball that popped up and his innings was over for 54. Disco followed 1 run later. This left 2 new batmens at the crease, but neither could get going. Jiga 6 and McFarlane 10. It was left to Blatt and Custance to see the score over 200 with both players finishing not out. Blatt 15 & Custance 13. Hopefully it was noted by the new skipper and we could see the duo batting up the order in the next game.
