Aim
St Lukes Cricket Club aims to provide a competitive standard of cricket, as consistently as possible that is appropriate to the skills and aspirations of the players. The success of St Lukes relies on the shared commitment of all playing members. All St Lukes players must give their best on the field of play. To succeed St Lukes requires strong commitment from all players in the following:
- Good availability.
- Response to administrative needs.
- Participation in social and other activities.
- Support of club etiquette.
Availability
A healthy club requires a full programme of matches. We all have conflicting demands on our time (work, family, holidays etc.) but, in order to help St Lukes to be successful, players are expected to:
- Be available to play 60% to 70% of matches over the season.
- Provide availability in good time for the Monday night selection decision.
- Be pro-active and clear in giving availability (ie avoid the need for captains to contact players.)
- Avoid crying-off having previously made yourself available. (Injuries and emergencies do happen of course, in which case the captain needs to be informed immediately.)
Administration
St Lukes has a number of expenses, including the hire of pitches, the purchase of equipment, and affiliation fees. For the club to operate effectively, players will:
- If choosing to pay the annual subscription, pay it on or before their first game of the season.
- Ensure that they do not leave a game without paying their match fee and made their future availability known.
- Remain to socialise with teammates and opposition for at least one drink after games (which is possible even for those who do not drink alcohol).
- Check with the captain before assuming that a match has been cancelled (eg. for bad weather).
Participation
St Lukes encourages players from all walks of life and is made up of a disparate group of people. Friendships are made both on and off the pitch. Wives, partners and younger family members should feel welcome and able to join in. Team spirit is improved by strong social bonds. At St Lukes:
- Socialising after matches is an important part of being a St Lukes team player..
- All players should feel able to invite their wives, partners and families to games and to introduce them to other members and guests.
- Established players take responsibility for introducing themselves to new members and making their wives, partners and families feel welcome.
- Every member is invited to support club social events.
Code of Conduct and Match Day Etiquette
St Lukes strives to attain the highest standard of conduct, behaviour and etiquette from its members and supporters. Captains are responsible for ensuring that players conduct themselves in such a manner that ensures that the Spirit of Cricket as well as the Laws of the Game are followed and a high team and personal standard is maintained Players are expected to play fair and respect opponents, umpires, colleagues and their captain. Thus the following rules are to be adhered to:

- Ensure that the correct cricket clothing is worn at all times (ie no black trainers, dark socks, t-shirts etc).
- Players must not leave before the end of the game, unless in an emergency, without permission of the captain.
- Agree, where necessary, to share in duties such as scoring, umpiring etc if the captain requests it.
