The second's first league game of the season, everyone was up for it, new players had joined the club in the winters break making the club a stronger unit.
The 2nd team were to take the field with their strongest ever side.....
Arriving at the ground the rain started to fall, there was a blanket of low gray clouds, it didn't look good for a day of cricket. The winds started to blow and the clouds started to shoot across the sky, keeping the rain away. (and in the end the Sun came out)
The game started with James losing the toss and being put into bat.
Jo and Richard were at the crease but were not scoring many off the bat, more down to the bowling being 'all over the place', but both Jo and Richard fell cheaply as there were caught out but the unexpected good ball. Dieter was soon to follow, at that point Lukes were 21 for 3, could this be a disaster? Then there was a good stand of 60 between Gothum and Mitsi. Gothum fell for 34 followed by Mitsi for 22. Then with the score on 145, James was out for 18, bowled missing a ball that he lost in the trees, followed by Andy who was looking good when he fell for 34 having to play at one that reared off a length, to be caught and bowled. (AM & JS 45) This meant that Tim and Evan were the new batsmen at the crease. Evan was straight on the attack with his first 3 scoring shots going for fours. An entertaining innings of 39 came to end when he was run out going for a second run that was never there. Tim ended on 20 not out (EH & TC 66). Lukes ended on 214 all out from 49 overs.
Evan and Jason opened the bowling and Beddington were soon in trouble, with Evan (6/20/2) & Jason (10/20/2) taking 2 wickets followed by good spells from James (6/19/3) and Mitsi (5/8/3) Gopi also bowled 6 overs for 7 runs but was unlucky not to get any wickets. In the end Beddington were all out for 78.
The fielding was very good with 8 batsmen out caught, we did drop a couple which on another day we could have been punished for.
Catches JS 2, RS 1, JD 1, DG 1, GD 1, GK 1 EH 1.
Man of match: Evan Huyerman (third game on the trott)
