Sunday 3 June v Shamley Green
A full team of players gathered at the quaint village of Shamley Green in deepest Surrey. Put in to bat St Lukes started as though a good score was on the cards. Opener Tim Haslehurst made a confident 31 before a sluggish run was penalised with a run out. In the meantime he had lost several colleagues but Matthew Cobb kept St Lukes hopes alive with a bright 28. Ven Krishnamurthy hit a quick 26, including 2 sixes (one into the next village). He shared a 7th wicket partnership of 33 with Nick Radiven who recorded his highest ever score for St Lukes of 12. However, the tail did not wag and St Lukes were bowled out for a disappointing 128.
Jason Custance and Ven opened the bowling and both made early breakthroughs. One of Ven's 2 wickets was an excellent backward diving one-handed catch by Alex Street at slip. The attack was taken up by Dougal McFarlane and Robin Ford who took a couple of wickets each. One of Robin's was a neat stumping by wicketkeeper for the day, Ed Hardwicke. However, runs were continuing to build up and several shots in the air did not quite go to hand. Despite a good second spell from Dougal and some excellent bowling from Tim H at the death, Shamley Green managed to get the final runs with 2 wickets to spare.
Man of the Match - Tim Haslehurst.
