After the rigours of recent League matches a chance to relax with a friendly in picturesque surroundings and supported by a full and satisfying ‘tea’.

Although James came in as eleventh man, Karl continued as skipper for the day and was successful in the most important task of winning the toss and putting the opposition in on a green-top that looked as if it would be a little slow/low or both.  Bob and James opened the bowling and runs were hard to come by, not helped by batsman hitting James straight to obliging fielders – he taking out the top three bats conceding only six runs.  The switch to Karl (12-1) and Gopi (31-4) increased the run rate slightly but wickets continued to fall – eight batsmen were caught and another well run out by a direct hit from Doug (OK, he was about five yards away from the wicket).  Beddington were all out for 75 in only 28 overs.

In reply – stuffed from tea – Doug and Dieter started cautiously (that’s flattering for very slowly) with Dieter looking for boundaries (16 of his 20 runs).  Wasif, Rhani and Sri all came and went after looking confident as St Lukes lost five wickets with less than 50 on the board.  With lots of batting to come(!) Gotham and Karl decided that it was time to go for the big shots and quickly knocked off the required runs – although the 19 extras helped to ease the way.

Man of the match – James, bowling took out the top order and added a couple of good catches to complete the innings.
