St Lukes vs Osterley 2000 10 May 2008

Reported by Tim Craig

A tough opening league fixture and a curious start to the season with the groundsman called to re-mark the pitch which was originally too long.  The pitch itself looked curious and when Ed won the toss he elected to field.  Some early St Lukes pressure resulted in two quick wickets to Karl, however St Lukes failed to capitalise on the early breakthrough and Osterley built a very useful and ultimately match-winning 3rd wicket partnership.  St Lukes fought back with further wickets for Karl (ending with 4-40), the openers wicket falling to Charlie, who was then promptly relieved of his bowling duties, and three wickets for Dusty.  Special mention should be made for Jason’s 10 overs for 22 runs which, although wicket less, helped restrict Osterley, and for Charlie’s 3 catches which took him to 200 St Lukes career catches and, more importantly, a jug.  Osterley finished on 221-8 off their 45 overs.

St Lukes batting offered little resistance, with Karl’s opening quick fire 29, Michael’s 40 and Dusty’s cameo 18 late on the only real bright spots.  Even Tim ‘not out’ Blatt ran himself out on 0.  St Lukes were all out for 133 in the 31st over, disappointingly not using 14 overs.
