Report by Jason Custance
Karl Quinn, Rhys Rossiter*, Charlie Hillman, Prithvi Raj, Awadh Amar*, Dusty Ahmed, Mohammad Sultan*, Riaz Wahid*, Chad Potter*, Jason Custance, James Somers (captain)St Lukes had 5 players making their league debuts*
James won the toss and decided to field.
Jason and Dusty opened the bowling, both causing the openers problems from the go, with the ball swinging nicely. The tight bowling was the making of the first wicket with Aiden trying to push the runs along, he played an attacking shot directly at Raj, who took a smart catch above his head. After 10 overs Beddington were on 26. Richard Yu then started to get the score moving with some big shots, but at the another end it was still a struggle with Dave West caught behind by Charlie of Jason's bowling for 7, this brought Adrian Jones to the wicket and with Richard the other end marked a change in the game. The ball was hit to all parts of the ground with no St Lukes bowler able to stem the runs. It wasn't until Rhys was introduced as the 7th bowler that the next wicket fell, but the damage had been done with a stand of 154, with Richard Yu making 102, more runs were to come and Rhys also picked up his 2nd wicket. Adrian got his hundred in the final over and Beddington looked favourites for the win scoring 253 of 45 overs.

Karl and Rhys where sent in to start St Lukes reply. 1 run came from the first over to get Karl going, he then hit 15 in the next with 2 big sixes (losing the match ball) He tried to repeat the 'needing a new ball shot' first ball of the next over, but skyed it straight up for the bowler to take the catch ( took forever to come down). This meant Charlie was in action sooner then he hoped. Rhys and Charlie batted together for 29.1 overs always keeping us in touch and they put on a partnership of 144, Charlie was out for 53 but Rhys was still there on 80. At this point we had 13 overs left and needed 94 runs (RRR 7.2). Raj came to the wicket and put on a partnership on 20 with Rhys. At this point there were 9 overs left and will needed 70 runs to win (RRR 7.77). Awadh was next to the crease. Rhys got his hundred in the 37 over, but knew he still a fight to get us over the finish line (RRR 8.25) With great support from Awadh and then Dusty, 58 runs came of the next 6 overs and St Lukes were home with 3 overs to spare. Rhys finished on a 'man of the match' 138 not out, Awadh scored 14 and Dusty 16.

Man of the Match
Rhys Rossiter
Note from the Chairman.
One important issue which must be addressed is the lack of volunteers confident to umpire and do the scorebook. Several players have been playing for a few years now and they must take responsibility for umpiring at both square leg and the bowler’s end. As for scoring, players must watch those who can score and learn. With a bit of concentration scoring is very easy and players must try to learn. It puts a great strain on the captain if only two or three players can umpire or score.
