Ottershaw & Hamm Moor A v St Lukes A - Sat 9th May 2009
Put in to bat St Lukes started cautiously moving to 23 in 6 overs. Then 2 wickets fell in 2 overs but a stand of 35 between Mitsi (23) and Jaffar steadied the innings. Once again 2 quick wickets on 59 swung the game back to Ottershaw only for Shoks (36) and Atif to put on 66 for the 5th wicket. The batting was looking good with aspirations of 180-200. However, Ottershaw struck again – Shoks falling to a sharp stumping on 125 and he was followed by Atif and Nisar (15) both out on 142. The tail wagged slowly and with a nice 11 from Kalyan St Lukes ended all out for 166 in the 43rd over.
In reply Ottershaw took their time. Evan and Barry (2 for 30) opened the attack and bowled well, and Shoks came on and was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 21 in 10 overs. However, the Ottershaw batsmen managed to put regular stands together and in the end they coasted to a 5 wicket win. A couple of sharp chances were put down and a few runs went through the fielders which might have cost us the game.
A very enjoyable game despite the defeat. Nice ground and opponents with some encouragement for the season if the errors can be reduced both in batting and in the field.
Man of the Match – Shauks for batting and bowling.
